I was hanging out in the chat room during Casey's late night recap last night and we got on the subject of female artists/female fronted bands that rock.
I mentioned Guano Apes then was distracted with a phone call before I could educate @casey_wheeler on some of their music. So here are a few tunes to check out.
After a month of Monday meme silence (and lots of musical and web design work behind the scenes), I'm back to the Musical Monday thing (see Diane's blog) once again.
Gregor's use of the word "blogatronic" last week reminded me of this video- "ELEKTRONIK - SUPERSONIK". So of course, I had to share it with you guys.. because it cracks me up.
This week's Musical Monday (see Diane's blog) was a rough one, as I had a very difficult time deciding what to post.
After much considering, and plenty of arguing with myself, I chose a favorite of mine, Nine Inch Nails. @Trent_Reznor has been a HUGE inspiration over the years. Pretty Hate Machine was one of the first albums I ever owned, and still I never tire of it.
And, of course, I couldn't decide on a single NIN video, so here are a few:
For this week's Musical Monday (see Diane's blog), I chose "Buried Alive" by Creature Feature. I've been listening to these guys quite a bit this week. Definitely loving the keys, and finding a bit of inspiration from their music. And they've got a catchy sound, so the songs really stick with you.
You might also want to check out "The Greatest Show Unearthed".
For this week's Musical Monday (see Diane's blog), I chose "Dissolve" by Switchblade Symphony.
This song has been stuck in my head for the past few days.. every quiet moment I have to myself, it's playing in my mind. Good thing I can't really get sick of this one.. Love it. 'Tis definitely what's moving me right now.
(Sorry, not much of a visual this week. There aren't many videos for this song, and the live ones just do not match the level of emotion on the album track.)
Oh, and here's that cover of "Never Let Me Down Again" that I was looking for a few weeks ago. Turns out it was SS's Tina Root, under the name Tre Lux. (Thanks to the anonymous commenter who pointed me in the right direction.)
For this week's Musical Monday (see Diane's blog), I chose "Regret" by Ice Ages.
I've had the Buried Silence (2008) album on repeat for most of the day yesterday. And it seems that every time I listen to it, I always have the urge to dance whenever this song comes on. Great stuff.
For this week's Musical Monday (see Diane's blog), I decided to do something a little different from my usual..
Thanks to Ben's tweet yesterday, I have this "Ham" song stuck in my head.. and now you must suffer the same fate, of the ever-repeating song in your brain! ;)
For this week's Musical Monday (see Diane's blog), I chose "Never Let Me Down Again" by Depeche Mode.
I heard a cover of this song the other day in my friend's car, with a female vocalist (no, it wasn't Smashing Pumpkins), and I can't seem to place who it was.. but it was rather fitting for the moment. And it's been stuck in my head since then.. So this is what's moving me this MM:
For this week's Musical Monday (see Diane's blog), I chose "The Siren" by Aesthetic Perfection. I love this song. And I've been listening to A Violent Emotion (2008) quite a bit over the past week, as it's been helping me to get up and moving first thing in the morning (dancing is a great way to start the day, you know).
For this week's Musical Monday (see Diane's blog), I chose "Skinny Little Bitch" by Angelspit. This song is so abstract, yet catchy, I can't help but love it.. and I know a few people who fit this tune perfectly. I can't help but laugh.
He is the homecoming queen, hip new breed of cliche
Wears a tiara made of daggers and is in the Top 8
You throw him a kiss, he throws hi-voltage bouquets
If he can’t have your affection then he’ll thrive on your hate
Another in-your-face song (and really twisted video) - "Vena Cava"
For this week's Musical Monday (see Diane's blog), I chose "Euphoria" by Collide.
I didn't really know who Collide were until I saw this video (quite some time ago now), which I loved, and prompted me to get their music, and then later realized I had heard a lot of it on internet radio and various podcasts. Cool stuff.
For this week's Musical Monday (see Diane's blog), I chose a live recording of Nightwish's "The Siren" from the End of an Era tour- a stunning performance.
Tuomas Holopainen (keys, lyrics, composition) is by far my biggest source of musical inspiration to date. If it were not for him and my discovery of Nightwish, I probably would not have bought my first keyboard and taught myself to play, at least, not as soon as I did. His lyrics have inspired much of my own writing, past and present. And Tarja, the ex-vocalist featured in this video, would not have been a sort of role model when I was first developing my voice. Tuomas, and Nightwish as a whole, gave me something to aspire to. I owe that man a lot of credit, not just as a source of inspiration, but also for (indirectly) helping me to keep my sanity when times were less than ideal.
For this week's Musical Monday (see Diane's blog), I chose "Get Your Body Beat" by Combichrist.
I love the industrial and harsher electronic genres, especially first thing in the morning when I'm waking up and getting ready for the day. Combichrist, among many others, always puts me in a good mood. (This is what I was listening to this morning.)
For this week's Musical Monday (see Diane's blog), I chose to share a live version of "Unlaced" by Emilie Autumn. No matter how many times I hear this song, I'm captivated by the complexity of it. And unlike a lot of my favorite tunes, I could listen to this (almost) every day and never tire of it.
This is my first week being a part of Diane's Musical Monday meme. I discovered it a few days ago, and naturally, being the music freak I am, I have to play too.
Epica has been incredibly inspirational for me as of lately. Being that I have recently joined a symphonic/progressive metal project (more info on that one later), I have been soaking up all I can from the best bands in this genre. And "The Phantom Agony" is one of those songs that tugs at my heartstrings, and makes me melt into a puddle of black goo.
